About the
Alaska Vegan Society
The Alaska Vegan Society (AlaskaVeg.org) took a big step 2 years ago and hosted our first Alaska VegFest.
It was such a great success the we decided to do it again and again! (If you would like to read about the 2014 Alaska VegFest...Click Here.) |
Our mission is to create a healthy, compassionate and sustainable world by inspiring and supporting reverence for all life and the adoption of a plant-based diet. The Alaska Vegan Society has been an active and growing community of people who meet for monthly plant-based potluck dinners. Our potlucks are attended by 30-40 people from Anchorage and Mat-Su Valley, and everyone is welcome to attend.
We believe that eating a whole-foods, plant-based diet is the answer to many of the problems plaguing our world today, especially our health. Alaskans, like most of the western world, are struggling with obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Research shows that people eating a plant-based diet live longer, healthier lives.
Eating a plant-based diet is also one of the most effective ways of reducing our individual carbon foot print, saving the rainforest, reducing pollution in our oceans and fresh water supply. In short, if your serious about protecting the earth and our environment eating a vegan diet is the single most effective thing you can do.
Large scale animal agriculture, besides being the single largest source of greenhouse gases and environmental polluters, is an extremely cruel and inhuman practice where animals are treated as economic units rather than as living, breathing beings.
We provide education and support for everyone interested in learning more about incorporating a healthy plant-based diet. Whether you are already a vegan, a vegetarian, or just curious, you're invited to attend our events. Connecting with others on this path is extremely helpful when we make changes in our diet and lifestyle.
